Ground/Field/Edge

By julie.levesque
Burge-Von Mertens exhibition

New Work by
Victoria Burge, Anna Von Mertens

September 17 – November 5, 2022

Opening Reception: Saturday, September 17 • 3pm – 5pm
Gallery hours:
Thursdays, 12-4pm and by appointment

We are pleased to present Ground/Field/Edge an exhibition including new drawings and objects by Victoria Burge, and new large-scale drawings by Anna Von Mertens.

In this show of black shapes, nebulous regions, and alternately shimmery and inky graphite, the abstract yet referential work of both Victoria Burge and Anna Von Mertens comes together. Black is a space where information emerges and recedes. A field of black can construct geometries or invoke mysteries of the unknown. Black can both create and erase an edge. It references the Hubble deep field, where so many galaxies reside; the surface of paper; at times the background. Black represents possibility.
